Fraudulent Hire Alert
In the spirit of passing on information that becomes available to us, we have been advised today of a possible fraudulent theft attempt.
The hirer gave the name David Jones and claimed to represent BBC Studioworks. The hirer was able to provide BBC purchase orders and telephone numbers which went through to the BBC, however, they hadn’t heard of the name. The name, David Jones was used in March 2012, again in connection to the BBC on a number of reported incidents.
Other hire companies have reported similar approaches as reported in Broadcast Magazine on 2 March 2012. Suspicion was raised as a generic email address was used by the hirer.
I would reiterate again the importance of thorough hire checks on all hirers, but also in particular on new customers to your company.

Fraudulent Hire Alert
We have today been advised of a Fraudulent Hire involving Camera Equipment to the value of £13,000 from a company based in London SE16.
The company targeted rarely ‘dry hire’ but did so on this occasion.
It would appear to be a case of ‘Identity Theft’ and in no way is the real ‘Oliver Woodbridge’ involved in the incident outlined below.
The hire was for one day only, Tuesday 25th August 2015. The person involved has stolen the identity of an Oliver Woodbridge, living in Southampton. The driving licence and utility bills provided all tie up to the same address and a Short Period Insurance Policy purchased.
The driving licence photo appears to have been created in Photoshop, as it is a slightly different shade of pink to normal. The Energy Bill (EDF) provider does not supply energy to the address provided and the Water Bill provider does not cover this area, so quite clearly fraudulent.
The email address provided is also a hotmail account. Please note these details and send to other rental companies in case he is still attempting more rental thefts under this name.
We would reiterate again the importance of thorough hire checks at all times, particularly new customers.

Kudos smashes C4 drama ratings record with “Humans”
We were thrilled to read that Humans, the new drama from our client Kudos TV has launched to record breaking figures, indeed it's success was the subject of our latest regular blog.
It cleaned up on Sunday night, smashing the 3m that watched the launch of Indian Summers in February and This Is England ‘86 in September 2010. The series, a co-production with US network AMC, peaked with 4.3m (19%) in the five minutes from 9.35 pm.
It was C4’s biggest drama since the start of 2006; beating an episode of Shameless, which entertained 3.6m (19.1%) in January 2010.
It also nearly trebled the channel’s 1.6m (6.7%) slot average for the past 12 months, according to Barb data provided by overnights.tv.
Humans, as well as Kudos' other drama output, was insured by Integro ACJ on our Zurich Focus wording. This policy offers Film & TV companies the widest cover in the market, for ultimate protection of producer's budgets. Other drama producers that work with us include Hartswood, Red Planet, Drama Republic, Company, Bentley, Origin - all choosing to insure with the Zurich option.
As well as Zurich, we work with all the main Film & TV insurers, so we can offer tailored solutions for your project, including competitive E&O, Motor and Film Union Travel cover.
For quotes on your next production, to discuss further, or to find out about some of the unique benefits of our Focus scheme, please email Paul Hillier, Shaun Emery, Nigel Matthews or call us on 01206 500 000.
