FRAUDULENT HIRE ALERT

In the spirit of passing on information that becomes available to us, we have been advised of a recent fraudulent theft attempt, which bears the hallmarks of the scam with the BBC as per our alert of 6 March 2012.

It appears that instead of the BBC the hirers have now switched to use ITV London.

We have no confirmed thefts at this moment, and only suspicious emails and purchase orders.  Therefore, please be aware and ensure your hire checks are all in place and thorough.

Kind Regards

SECURITY VIGILANCE

We have been advised by a client that on the evening of Tuesday 8 May 2012, a visitor entered their premises, being allowed access by the onsite security guard.  The visitor provided his name and stated that he worked for a well known facilities company.  No other checks were carried out and the visitor subsequently gained access to other areas of the building on his own, much of which was caught on CCTV.  During his time in the office complex two laptops disappeared, although this was not directly caught on CCTV.

Following the theft the security company have tightened up on their procedures and are no longer just accepting visitors on face value.  Our client has spoken to the company, who the visitor said they worked for, and unsurprisingly there was no one of that name working there.

Last night, 13 May 2012, the same person has again attempted to gain access to the same premises by using the same name and again the same company name.  Luckily the security guard refused entry and he left immediately prior to the Police arriving.  It is clearly shown on CCTV that it was the same person that gained access on Tuesday 8 May 2012.

Police investigations are now ongoing.  It is obviously very important that when visitors enter your premises, even more so when shared with other companies, that either security and/or reception get suitable proof of identification and ensure that the visitors remain in the reception area until collected by a member of staff so that they cannot be allowed to roam freely once out of sight of the reception area.

Kind Regards
