Recent Break-In Update

We have become aware of a break-in at a television facilities company based in West London, which has led to a large amount of kit being stolen.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday 18 March 2013. The thieves gained entry by using an angle grinder to remove external metal grilles where they were able to access the main storage area.

The thieves have targeted the client's supply of HD camera sets, mainly differing Sony models and associated lenses. I understand the client will be looking to post a list of the equipment and serial numbers on www.xhire.org.uk, shortly.

This was a highly organised well planned theft and it is very likely the thieves had prior knowledge of the premise's security system.

I would reiterate the continued awareness of the importance of physical security measures and ensure all protections are in place when the premises are unoccupied. This awareness should include checks on the PIR detectors ensuring they cover 100% of the area where kit is stored, if in any doubt please get your Alarm Companies to resurvey.

Fraudulent Hire Alert

We have been advised of a recent fraudulent theft.

We understand that a Sony HVR-Z5E camcorder and associated kit were hired recently from a company based in Surrey.

The hirer gave his name as Nicholas Egboh and provided the following address and phone numbers:

Address: 108 Clitterhouse Crescent, London NW2 1DA
Telephone: 07769 895857 and 0203 6659394

The hirer provided adequate information on his identity and address and looked to hire the camera equipment over a three day period, 12 to 14 March 2013.

The kit has not been returned and the residential address provided has been visited but the hirer does not live there.

The Police are investigating and unfortunately that is all the information we have to hand at this time.

I would reiterate again the importance of thorough hire checks, in particular on new customers to your company. Please advise all relevant staff of the above name in case he makes contact with you, in readiness for another attempt.

If you know of anyone who you feel would benefit from receiving our e-mailer alerts, please send me their e-mail address and I will add them to our database. They will then be included in future alerts.
